Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens Second Impressions

Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens Second Impressions

Before I vomit words, I need to get this out of the way first. BB-8 is absolutely my favourite thing about this movie! He was one of the only elements of the film where I had the exact same reactions after watching the second time around. He is adorable and unique, and greatly reminds me of a little Labrador puppy. I also think Sphero nailed the app controlled toy droid in real life. If I had a spare pay cheque...

Now that I’ve gotten my favourite part out of the way, let me just quickly talk about my least favourite. Kylo Ren. Yes, I disliked him. I wasn’t sure after listening to others views, but honestly, I really cannot stand him. Kudos to the actor Adam Driver though, he plays him well. I do believe he will grow on me in the future episodes, once he’s grown up himself... But one thing I can’t deny - his outfit and lightsaber is wicked. Every time I walk into Big W I look at the giant Kylo dolls with longing, until I remember that annoying twat under the mask. If you’re unconvinced about his new lightsaber design, watch this.

An incredible improvement to the previous trilogies are the starship fights. Some moments actually got my adrenalin pumping, especially my favourite scene where the cinematography is just pure joy. Roaming from ground action to sky fights without breaking immersion got me smiling like an idiot, because it was just so cool!

So really, I’m just going to point out that this is my favourite Star Wars film so far. It captures the original trilogy’s atmosphere extremely well. I was a little disappointed in the repetitive story elements with this particular episode, but I feel they won’t do the same with 8 and 9, and instead move on from the nostalgic components into a fresh aspect of the Star Wars saga. One, I hope, that explores Jedi origins. And I am ultimately excited to see the progression of these awesome new characters - Rey, Finn, Kylo, and Poe. And of course, BB-8!

Pew pew!
